WPL 2027 Auction: Full Squads, Top Buys and Team-by-Team Analysis
All five franchises have completed their squads for the upcoming Women’s Premier League season after the WPL mini auction in Kochi on October 28. A total of 150 players entered the auction, but just 27 vacancies were available across the teams, making competition for contracts especially intense.
With most franchises retaining their core players before the auction, teams had limited room to reshape their line-ups. Many bids came in at the base price of INR 10 lakh, while Australia captain Sophie Molineux emerged as the auction’s biggest signing, joining UP Warriorz for INR 1.10 crore. Delhi Capitals’ Kiran Navgire was the next most expensive player, earning a INR 75 lakh contract.
UP Warriorz make the biggest moves
UP Warriorz were among the most active teams in the auction, adding eight players to their squad. Their headline purchase was Molineux, whose experience as an international all-rounder gives the franchise another option with both bat and ball. The team also secured India internationals Sneh Rana and Sushma Verma, along with Grace Harris, Kathryn Bryce, Asha Sobhana, Sahana Pawar and Manali Dakshini.
The Warriorz’s recruitment suggests a focus on strengthening their bowling depth while adding flexibility to the batting order. Molineux and Rana offer experienced spin options, while Harris can provide aggressive middle-order runs. The impact of these additions will depend on how well the new players fit alongside established names such as Deepti Sharma, Meg Lanning and Sophie Ecclestone.
Defending champions RCB keep their changes measured
Royal Challengers Bengaluru enter the new season as defending champions after beating Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2026 final. RCB made four auction signings, including Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen for INR 40 lakh. Chloe Tryon and Tejal Hasabnis also joined for INR 30 lakh apiece, while Vrinda Dinesh was signed for INR 10 lakh.
Rather than overhaul a title-winning group, RCB have made targeted additions to complement a squad featuring Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, Ellyse Perry and Georgia Voll. Jonassen’s experience could be particularly valuable in pressure situations, while the new domestic players offer additional selection options across a long tournament.
Mumbai Indians add six players at base price
Mumbai Indians used a different approach, signing six players for INR 10 lakh each. Their auction additions were Disha Kasat, Latika Inamdar, Bharti Rawal, Saanika Chalke, Shweta Sehrawat and Akshita Bhagat. The franchise had already brought Tara Norris into the squad through a trade with UP Warriorz before the auction.
MI’s measured spending reflects the limited number of open places and the strength of their retained group. Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr provide the team with substantial international experience. The new signings will have an opportunity to build depth and challenge for roles as the season progresses.
Delhi Capitals land the second-biggest auction buy
Delhi Capitals secured Kiran Navgire for INR 75 lakh, the second-highest price of the auction. Known for her powerful hitting, Navgire could add a different dimension to a batting group that already includes Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp.
DC also signed Kashvi Kandikuppa, Nazma Khan and Kirstie Gordon for INR 10 lakh each. The additions give the team further options, although Navgire’s ability to translate her attacking style into consistent WPL performances will be one of the key storylines to watch. Delhi will be aiming to bounce back after finishing as runners-up to RCB in the previous final.
Gujarat Giants strengthen their options
Gujarat Giants added three players: G. Kamalini for INR 40 lakh, Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast for INR 30 lakh and Samaira Raghav for INR 10 lakh. Prendergast brings international experience and the potential to contribute in multiple departments, while Kamalini and Raghav add further depth to the squad.
The Giants already have a strong collection of overseas talent, including Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Georgia Wareham, Kim Garth and Sophie Devine. Their challenge will be to find the right balance between international stars and Indian players, particularly when selecting a playing XI under the league’s overseas-player limit.

WPL 2027 prediction: What to watch
The completed squads point to a season in which continuity could matter as much as headline purchases. RCB will look to defend their title with a largely familiar core, while UP Warriorz have made the most noticeable changes. Mumbai Indians have prioritised economical depth, and Delhi’s investment in Navgire could pay off if she delivers explosive runs in the middle order.
As always, an auction-day prediction is only a starting point. Player availability, form, injuries and team combinations will shape the race once the tournament begins. With experienced international stars and emerging Indian talent spread across all five sides, the WPL 2027 season promises another competitive contest for the title.
