BCCI Strengthens Presence in Asian Cricket Council Ahead of Asia Cup 2025
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made strategic moves to bolster its influence within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) by appointing key personnel ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. This development signifies BCCI’s commitment to furthering its role in shaping cricket across Asia and strengthening its global leadership in the sport.
New Appointments in the Asian Cricket Council
On March 7, the BCCI confirmed the appointments of Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar to the Asian Cricket Council. This move comes after Jay Shah stepped down as the ACC president in December 2024, following three consecutive terms. Shah, who was also the BCCI secretary, was elected unopposed as the chairman of the International Cricket Council, assuming his new role on December 1, 2024.
Rajeev Shukla will now fill the vacant position left by Shah as an Executive Board Member, representing the BCCI at the ACC. With a rich background in Indian cricket, including serving as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shukla brings valuable experience to his new role. On the other hand, Ashish Shelar, a former BCCI treasurer, will represent the BCCI on the ACC Board as an Ex-Officio Board Member.
Devjit Saikia, the BCCI Secretary, expressed the organization’s confidence in the newly appointed representatives, extending his best wishes to Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar. “Our aim is to work towards promoting, developing, and strengthening cricket in Asia,” Saikia stated.
Focus on Asia Cup 2025
As the ACC board gears up for the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September in the T20 format, discussions are underway regarding the event’s logistics. Despite India being the official host, the tournament will be played at a neutral venue due to India-Pakistan relations. Potential locations such as Sri Lanka or the UAE are being considered.
The current cycle of Asia Cups, scheduled until 2031, will see Bangladesh hosting the 2027 edition featuring 13 ODI matches. The 2029 tournament, with 19 T20s, will be held at a neutral venue by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Lastly, the 2031 edition, consisting of 13 ODIs, is set to take place in Sri Lanka, highlighting the diverse hosting opportunities within the ACC.
These developments within the ACC not only set the stage for the upcoming Asia Cup but also pave the way for collaborative efforts in advancing cricket across the Asian continent. With BCCI’s strengthened presence in the council, the future of cricket in Asia looks promising and full of exciting opportunities for fans and players alike.

This approach not only enhances the inclusivity of the event but also opens up new opportunities for diverse hosting locations within Asia, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration among member nations.
Enhancing Regional Cricket Development
As the ACC looks ahead to hosting a series of Asia Cups until 2031, the focus on different formats and hosting countries highlights the organization’s commitment to advancing cricket development across the region. By rotating host nations and formats, the ACC provides a platform for countries to showcase their cricketing prowess and engage fans from diverse backgrounds. This approach not only elevates the standard of cricket in Asia but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participating nations.
Collaborative Efforts for Cricket Growth
With the BCCI playing a pivotal role in the Asian Cricket Council, collaborative efforts among member nations are poised to drive the growth and popularity of cricket in the region. By leveraging the expertise and resources of each country, the ACC can work towards enhancing grassroots cricket programs, talent development initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades. This collaborative approach not only benefits established cricketing nations but also creates pathways for emerging cricketing nations to thrive and compete at a global level.
Looking Towards a Bright Future for Asian Cricket
As the BCCI strengthens its presence in the Asian Cricket Council and the ACC gears up for the Asia Cup 2025 and beyond, the future of cricket in Asia looks promising and full of potential.
